Cardiovascular diseases
According to the data by World Health Organization (WHO) ,cardiovascular disease is number 1 killer in Malaysia. In 2014, the number of deaths in Malaysia was 146,000, among which cardiovascular disease accounted for 36%.
Harvard University conducted a research on epidemiology on 70,000 women aged 45-65 and found that lack of sleep is detrimental to the heart. 40% of the people with less than 5 hours of sleep are likely to suffer heart diseases compared with those who sleep 8 hours a day. This is because people who stay up late will feel tense easily. They are unable to relax, resulting in high blood pressure. So, staying up late is one of the causes of cardiovascular diseases which indirectly leads to sudden death.
However, staying up late is not the root of sudden death. People who show cardiovascular symptoms or have a family history of cardiovascular disease are the high risk groups and are liable to experience sudden death if they stay up late too often.
